The Oasis Adult Groups were started in 2014, as a direct response to an urgent need within the community. It is the youngest project at Oasis and has done exceptionally well. Starting with nine adults in 2014, it has since grown to 60 adults, assisted by a team of dedicated and professional support staff.
The objective of the programme is to accommodate adults with intellectual disabilities that are over 18 years old and who cannot cope with a full day of work, but still have the right to the dignity of meaningful occupation, socialisation, life-skills training, and a high level of care and supervision.
Our Adult Groups are based in Elsies River and Ravensmead, and cater for a niche group of men and women who are unable to work in the protective workshops, and are too old for our Day Centres.
While daily activities include a degree of productive work, emphasis is instead placed on activities that alleviate the stress associated with a productive environment.
This service is especially valuable for our older, long-term beneficiaries, as they begin to slow down, or even regress and can no longer manage a full day of work.
